American Vice is an up and coming dvd jukebox site that distinguishes itself though unique technical features like sophisticated search and sorting functionality and a personal touch with an editorial voice that you don't find on other adult DVD download sites.
There are currently over 1,700 DVDs containing over 10,000 scenes. Most of the movies are non-exclusive and are well-selected. There are 40+ exclusive Supercore movies plus material from Extreme Associates, which is hard to find on other sites. The majority of the content is mainstream porn, but you can access the "Sick and Demented" section from the "Hard Action" menu (not for the faint of heart), and the Fetish section should please the most twisted voyeurs.
Each movie is accompanied by a hi-res cover image, screen caps, and a critique filled with colorful commentary. The editor pulls few punches and usually gives a blunt and often very entertaining assessment. The editor also has his own section of scene picks, which lean heavily toward classic porn material.
Navigation is performed through various drop-down menus and through use of a powerful search engine. Some will really find these features a treat. Others may find things a bit cumbersome and overwhelming. Be prepared to spend time playing around with it. Movies may are also listed by name of star. The custom bios and "Vice" ratings are also useful.
Quality of movie downloads is good to very good. No digital conversion appears to have been used on the older movies, though. Your only choice of download method is a one-mouse-click WMV, though there is a choice between three download speeds. Streaming on a fast pipe was good but not great. Those on dialup may become a bit frustrated with both the speed of download and the need for buffering when streaming.
AmericanVice is, happily, a different sort of dvd jukebox. It's apparent that the webmasters take pride in their work and are trying to build and maintain a great site. There is certainly something for everyone here, including true pervs. A more competitive price and bigger movie library would raise our score to a perfect "10."
