MovieBox is one of the latest DVD download sites that Sir Rodney has had an opportunity to explore. This one is rather large, with around 4,600 dvds, but does not yet have the volume of the largest dvd sites. In fairness to MovieBox, the bar keeps getting raised as each competitor constantly adds more and more movies. MovieBox claims to be adding ten per day, and they could eventually become king of the hill if they can maintain that pace.
Your subscription to MovieBox gets you approximately 4,600 ‘Regular,’ meaning non-exclusive, standard definition dvds. The movies are sourced from over 200 porn studios, ranging from well-known names to some we’d never heard of before. All of the major porn categories are covered. Some fetish (feet, bondage, etc.) material is here, but it’s not the main emphasis. Most of the material is fairly recent, or at least not more than two years old.
Also available are 741 premium dvds. These are exclusive to MovieBox, but you’ll have to pony up extra for the dvd or you can cherry-pick individual scenes for three to four dollars each. The HD section contains 130 dvds, but these all appear to be premium offers, as well. In addition, there are five premium channels for an extra $19.99 per month each. Squirt Flood, Painfully Massive, Tranny Massacre, Ex-Girlfriend Footage, and Punished 18 can all be found at the lower left-hand side of the main page. You’ll have to be judicious in your use of these premium offers, as your tab could quickly escalate to several times the basic membership price.
Site mechanics are fairly straightforward and easy to use. Browse and view scenes by category, studio, porn star or use the search box. You can also have MovieBox pick a random scene for you or you can click ‘Currently Watched’ and see what other people are now viewing. Scenes can be quickly previewed by scrolling your mouse over them. Movies can be downloaded in one file or in 4 or 5 segments. Available formats are WMV, MPEG1, MPEG4, and ipod/PSP.
Overall, MovieBox is a solid effort with a good quantity of movies and good site mechanics. We just wish that more of the ‘Premium’ stuff was available to regular members.
