New management has been working to restore the venerable Penthouse brand to its glory days, and this has of course included building a megasite that lives up to its reputation as an edgy but super-glam web site for men - and women - who love sex. Current management has done Guccione proud, despite their well publicized parting of ways, capturing the spirit of the brand with hundreds of hardcore movies, scenes, and feeds, to supplement decades of models and dirty stories.As you would expect, the anchor of the site is its incredible collection of lavish nude photo layouts of the world's most beautiful women by the world's leading photographers, dating back to 1973. There are over 1,000 photo galleries, organized by year, and model name. We were delighted to rediscover 70s glam softcore queens who Sir Rodney wanked to as a young lad, decades ago, and all are now available for download in convenient zip files. No more hiding bulky magazines under the mattress. Now they can reside forever on your hard drive. All our adolescent fantasies came flooding back to us at the sight of hippie chicks with huge juggs, bikini lines, and hairy bush, which they tantalizingly half-hide from our gaze, as if they were shy (oh we know better in these cynical times). Of course, there are also contemporary Pets, too, many of them well known porn stars. Shyness would not fit them as well. Not surprisingly, the older galleries are limited to what was actually published in the magazine, while the newer material offers many many more pictures, and links to video scenes, as well a very high resolution pictures for your downloading pleasure. We were a little disappointed that there was no slideshow option, which would leave one's hands free.
The video offering is much less coherent, and less impressive in overall quality, although there is a tremendous amount of material, anchored by more than 1,000 scenes from the Penthouse video collection. These are only available for streaming, and are linked the store where they are offered for sale. Preview is limited to a couple of screen shots and a short prose description. Overall, this was rather disappointing, but the 100 or so full-length movies from Jill Kelly library, which Penthouse recently acquired, are all downloadable by scene and segments. Again, the preview is scant, but the scenes themselves are excellent, if over-produced with lavish lighting and cliché music. The site promises to add four new DVD titles a week. In addition, dozens and dozens of chunk hardcore feeds are available for those who need sluttier fun. However, in general in each of these sections we found the streaming quality to be spotty.
Finally, Penthouse is kind enough to give users access to its excellent letters, written by "real" people (not really). Sir Rodney recalls many lonely nights, years ago (before the Internet) when these letters alone were JOM enough. There is a also a video chat area, some scheduled with well known contemporary stars, and many more classy cam girls who are available for free chat. Of course, you have the option to ?go private? for an extra fee. We aren't sure where Penthouse is getting these live models, but they are certainly a cut above the normal cam girls found on iFreinds, LiveJasmin, or Camz. In general the site is laced with upsells to the store, and to on-demand downloads. Sir Rodney really dislikes being upsold after paying his entrance fee.
This site is so big it is at times a bit overwhelming. The video area needs better organization, and much better previews. Nonetheless, there is a lot on Penthouse.com, all with the classy high gloss flavor of the magazine. Fans of the magazine will be delighted by this robust web site.
